I’ve been teasing it for a while, but I’m finally able to confirm my London Marathon book is now available for preorder.
It’s not just me talking about the marathon – that would be boring. No, this book is charting everything I did to get me from not running at all (ever) to completing 26.2 miles around London. It is aimed at people who enjoy running, and also those who don’t but think it might be a good way to get fit.
That’s what happened to me – I fell into running and haven’t really stopped. But, as a novice, there was so much I didn’t know, and so much I have learned. I’m not just talking about kit either, but motivation, route planning, apps, events, peer support and why certain body parts seem to shrink after a few miles.

This book is the diary of a real person running, not an athlete looking to get you started, not a celebrity runner cashing in. This is what I think the average person could do with knowing before they start. It’s the sort of book I might even have read when I started.
There’s also my training diary, charting exactly how I got in shape and the challenges I encountered in doing so. The intention is for you to use it as a guide to get marathon fit, or even half-marathon fit.
The cost is £14, and every penny of profit from the presale will go to the Lincoln City Foundation. I don’t know how much that will be yet, as I haven’t got my publishing costs together, but I’m hoping it will be around £7 per book. That money will go straight to helping the Foundation deliver its priceless work within the community.
They help people lead better lives, and I hope not only will you and I contribute to that through this book, but maybe I’ll help you make yours a bit better by discovering running. Just don’t blame me for the black toenails in a year or two.
How To Order
I am aiming to have the book ready for delivery by the end of June, but will add everyone to a mailing list (that I’ll only use for this and not loads of promotional stuff) to keep you informed. My intent is to post out and then make myself available for collection at either a pre-season friendly or one of the first league matches at Sincil Bank.
To order a copy, please fill out the form below and then send £14 via PayPal to gazhutch78@gmail.com. If you require postage, please add £4 postage and packing.
If you’re unable to use PayPal, please fill out the form, but add at the bottom your preferred payment method, and I’ll contact you before the due date to collect.
Please note I can’t accept cash on delivery for pre-orders.
