Zak Bradshaw Departs Sincil Bank

Zak Bradshaw has completed a permanent switch to Sky Bet League Two side Cambridge United.

The defender departs on a free transfer with City holding a future interest in the player. The 21-year-old, who originally joined the club from Ipswich Town in 2024, has signed a two-year deal with the League Two outfit after spending last season gaining valuable experience on loan at Dundalk and Tranmere Rovers.

Bradshaw’s time at Lincoln didn’t include a first-team appearance, but his impact was felt through his consistent development elsewhere. After signing from Portman Road, the left-sided defender was immediately loaned to Dundalk in the League of Ireland, where he enjoyed a strong stint, before finishing the season with Tranmere Rovers, clocking a combined 51 appearances across the two clubs.

While Bradshaw didn’t break into the Imps’ senior set-up, his time under contract at Sincil Bank was used to refine his defensive game and expose him to regular senior football. That he earned back-to-back loans and became a fixture in two different squads reflects well on both his attitude and potential.

Speaking upon signing for Cambridge, Bradshaw admitted he was eager to settle down and find a permanent home after years of movement.

“I’ve had a lot of loans and racked up a lot of games,” he said, “but now I want to be able to call a place home. We’re all on the same page – with where I want to get to and the club’s ambition. I’m just over the moon and want to hit the ground running.”

Signed as a ‘project player’, it was originally felt he could be converted into a left wing-back. His subsequent loans may have given him game time, but he hasn’t done enough to suggest he has a place in a League One squad.

We didn’t pay money for him, so to have a future interest but no fee seems acceptable. If he smashes it at Cambridge, at least we’re covered.
