Legendary Commentator Announced As Voice Of Imps Broadcasts

This might not be the signing fans are waiting for, but it is definitely one worth talking about.

John Helm has signed up as the voice of Imps + for the coming season, and it’s going to be a game changer for those matches we can watch at home. Of course, those matches are only non-3 pm Saturday kick-offs, unless you have access to a VPN, of course…..

Anyway, onto John. I had the immense pleasure of working briefly with him for a game last season, the pre-season friendly against Arsenal, and it was unbelievable. We’re talking about a proper seasoned presenter, a man so meticulous he had seven pages of notes just for Arsenal Under 21s. He is a consummate professional, a man who not only made me completely at ease with being on that gantry but who guided me through the commentary process. That was my first love, football commentary, and to be a pundit next to John was a dream come true.

Who is he, for younger fans? He’s only the voice of sport for many of us growing up in this region, as recognisable as John Motson and Barry Davies. Covering 10 World Cups, five Olympics and more than 6,500 games across the globe, Helm’s voice is one of the most recognisable and revered in the game and as the club have proudly announced, it will be heard across City’s official streaming service throughout the upcoming season.

It’s enough to make me want to watch whole games back even after I’ve been at them, to hear what a proper expert has to say.

I haven’t been asked by the club to do this, but if you do wish to sign up for Imps + you can do so here. If you wish to understand a little more about VPNs so you can watch games on a Saturday (only if you’re unable to get, of course) then there might be cheeky guide coming up soon.
