Former City striker Danny Webb has been mentioned a bit on these pages recently, and this is likely to be the final time.
Webb, who played under Keith Alexander in the 2002/03 season, may not have made headlines with us, but he has been in the news over the last three weeks for a bizarre managerial switch.
He was the assistant boss of Chesterfield, well-liked and admired after a coaching career that took him to Leyton Orient and Watford. It seemed the time was right to step up a level in terms of roles, and when Mark Cooper, our old friend, got sacked at Yeovil, Webb was unveiled as manager.

He lasted under a week, a single game, before leaving the Glovers, with family reasons cited. It’s possible that his family didn’t fancy Somerset and preferred Derbyshire (both beautiful parts of the country), but whatever happened, he binned Yeovil off.
He’s not been announced as the assistant manager of League Two side Chesterfield. Again. So, after the original September 12th announcement, he’s done a full 360 and gone back to the Spireites. Would you rather be on the edge of the beautiful Peak District, or slap bang in the south west, within easy distance of the coast?

Webb arrived at Sincil Bank in early 2003, a young forward who had come through Southampton before a permanent switch to Hull City. Keith Alexander, in his ongoing search for the right attacking blend, brought the striker in on loan to sharpen a side pushing hard at the top end of the division.
His spell with the Imps was short, yet he did leave a mark. Webb scored in a 2–1 win against Bristol Rovers in March, a contribution that helped City along the road to the play-offs. That proved to be his only goal in red and white before he returned to Hull and later moved around the lower leagues.

For the record, it was more than some of the other short-term striking experiments delivered at the time, and Keith was disappointed when he left.
“We’ve had four forwards in on loan this season and none of them have quite done the job I wanted them to,” said Keith.
“Although I would like to have kept Daniel until the end of the season he wanted to go back to Hull. I’m disappointed with his decision as I think it’s the wrong one but if the lad doesn’t want to stay he doesn’t want to stay.”
