Scott Fry has signed a contract to remain with the Imps as set-piece coach.

Fry joined the club as goalkeeping coach in July 2022 and took on the added responsibility of overseeing all set-pieces at the start of the 2024/25 season.

The club’s success with set-pieces saw an approach for his services from a Championship club this summer. Initially, he seemed set to move, with David Preece returning to the club as keeper coach. On reflection, Scott has chosen to remain with the Imps where he will continue to focus on set plays.

“Scott is a massive asset to the club, and we are delighted that he has reached this decision,” director of football Jez George said. “Our record from set-plays last season was unparalleled in the EFL and the highest differential for goals scored versus goals conceded across all the top leagues in Europe.

“Scott played a huge role in those outcomes. We know that it is a crucial facet of our game model and fundamental for us to overachieve. Michael Skubala gives Scott the autonomy to lead this process, ably assisted by first team analyst George Bush, and supported by Chris Cohen, Tom Shaw, David Preece and Mason Cook.

“This collaborative approach is symptomatic of our ethos and gives us the best chance of success. Every opponent is aware of our prowess with set-plays so we must keep evolving and we have now widened Scott’s remit to include all re-starts, which against Chelsea even included our kick-off!”

Preece, who returned to the club in July, will continue as first-team goalkeeping coach.

Having spoken to Scott a couple of times, most recently at the awards dinner this year, he struck me as a great asset to the club. It’s also a forward-thinking move to have a set play coach, given the notable advantage we have had in this area.
