Stevenage were expected to be a stern test for City yesterday, but aside from a solitary chance in the second half, they offered nothing.
With one defeat in the league all season, they came as the in form team, and while you can see why they’re decent and challenging at the top, they didn’t give us a full demonstration of their attacking prowess.
Boss Alex Revell, a one-time Imps target for Danny Cowley during his time here, admitted his side didn’t have the same intensity that we’re getting a reputation for.

“We weren’t at our best,” he told the Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Standard (bizarrely).
“We lacked the real intensity they had. They started the game like we normally do and it took us a while to get into it. We had to withstand a lot of pressure in that first 15 minutes.
Revell also spoke about levels, with his side not reaching the levels that have seen them beat Luton Town and Leyton Orient in recent weeks.
“We have to be at our very best to grab victories and results and we were not at those levels today.
“We didn’t create enough chances or keep the ball well enough and if you keep giving it away it’s going to keep coming back at you. We looked very lacking in intensity and it was a difficult afternoon.”

It was a difficult afternoon, but one made easier by referee Martin Coy. He had a laid-back approach to the game, letting lots of pulling and holding go, and not punishing dives with yellow cards.
Had he been more authoritarian, or a bit ‘Aaron Bannister’ in his approach, we might have seen a different game, with more added time. Given their time-wasting from minute one, and ours from minute 69, we might still have been playing now.
