It’s tough to take, going out of the FA Cup.
I’m not sure which is worse, going out in a non-entity tie against someone like Leyton Orient away, or being shot down by a League Two club and being on the other side of the magic story.
If you’re the former, the cup goes missing for a season, but is it better to forget than remember because of something negative? I don’t know, but what I do know is that Lincoln City’s exit from the FA Cup yesterday hurt.
It hurt a lot of people, because on social media, there were words like ‘shambles’ and ’embarrassing’. Was it? Was it really? Painful, yes. Underwhelming, sure. But shambles? Against a side third in the division below, packed with decent players who know our league and some who know the leagues above?
I’m not sure shambles is quite right.
I thought I’d set out to find ten matches that were more embarrassing, ten times we perhaps were a shambles, and we exited in humiliating fashion.
