Are We Really Always Rubbish At Christmas?

Having gone out of the cup this weekend, there is a fear that our winter slump is starting early.

It’s widely accepted that we drop off around Christmas almost every year, but I wondered if that was just a perception? Is it right or wrong that Santa brings presents, good cheer and Lincoln City misery?

I’m not talking about one or two seasons either – I’m looking at a 25-year average.

What constitutes Christmas? I’d say the game before Christmas, through to the first game of the new year, assuming in is before the third or fourth of January. Would that be fair? I think so.

What is rubbish? No wins? Half the points available? It’s open for debate, but for this study, I’d say that less than a point per game would be classed as rubbish, and fewer than 1.5 per game would be average.

I’d ask if you agree, but you’re reading and can’t answer!

With that as my barometer, how have we really done at Christmas over the last 25 years?

The answer is bad. Very bad.

The last page, if you want to skip, is the conclusion.
