It’s not really fair when the win comes the Saturday before, because you forget that when you lose three on the bounce. Shrewsbury, Bolton (again with ten men) and Rotherham ended our Christmas miserably, before a 0-0 draw with Stevenage, just too late to count, gave us a single point going into the new year.

What an awful Christmas for Michael Skubala in 2023. We lost all four Christmas games against Derby (3-1), Bolton (1-0 with ten men), Northampton Town (2-1 with ten men) and Blackpool.
We then went 16 unbeaten, which did soften the blow a little.
2022/23 – 0.66 PPG (season average 1.35)
Into the Kennedy era, and he fared no better. We took one point from three games in 2022, losing 3-0 to Burton on Boxing Day. We then drew two, against Bolton and Ipswich, games we led in, and games we finished with ten men.
2021/22 – 0 PPG (season average 1.13)
We only played one game that fell into the Christmas period, and after taking full points in 2020, Appleton took zero in 2021. That’s because we lost 3-2 to MK Dons on Boxing Day, after being 2-0 up at half time.
2020/21 – 3 PPG (season average 1.67)
Just the two matches over Christmas in 2020, and we won both. Our big win against Northampton on the 19th is just a bit early to be classed as Christmas, but putting five past Burton on Boxing Day was sweet.
We also won 2-1 at Wimbledon on January 2nd, completing a clean Christmas sweep.
