Zane Okoro and MJ Kamara both played significant roles for their clubs last night.

Playing in the BetMcLean Cup, both started their team’s matches. For Zane, this isn’t unusual; he’s been a strong player for Coleraine as they hunt a title time, but MJ hasn’t.

Coleraine faced off against Armagh City of the Championship, and they brushed them aside in a show of strength. The Bannsiders were 4-0 up at half-time, with Zane playing a part in their first goal. He later went off, with his team adding three more, with a late consolation for Armagh, seeing the score end 7-1.

There was an eye-catching debut for 17-year-old Oliver Devlin, who scored twice and added an assist. He feels like a name to watch after his display. The result also continued a fine run of form in the competition – they’ve now scored 15 goals in just two matches.

Glentoran, second in the NIFL, four points behind Coleraine with two games in hand, were also looking for a route to the quarter-final. They were up against fellow top-flight side Crusaders, and wasted no time in getting their noses ahead. Johnny Russell headed them into a first-minute lead, with David Fisher adding a second before half time.

They ended up conceding late, but MJ played the full game, which will be vital minutes under his belt.

They’ll both now await the draw for the quarter finals, with a chance that they’ll play each other. Currently, MJ and Zane are set to go head-to-head on December 19th, if both are picked for their league encounter.
