Five Cowley era players who would have been right at home playing for Big Keith

Jordan Williams

Okay, Williams wasn’t our player, but he still qualifies for being Danny era.

He got six starts in the league for us, with five outings from the bench. He couldn’t impress at that time and went back to Rochdale, later going to TNS in Wales, where he’s now a first team regular.

I liked Williams, I’m not convinced his tracking back was suitable for our high-energy game, but he did offer width and a bit of probing. That’s why he’d fit in well with Keith’s formation. I’ve labelled it as a 5-2-3, but it could also have ben a 3-4-3 I suppose. The emphasis was on those full backs to provide whatever width was needed, with two of the three up front seemingly able to run the channels or flanks as needed.

That is where Williams would play, on the left of whoever Keith had roped into playing up front. Cropper in the first season, GTF in the second and third, Gary Birch (remember him) or Marvin Robinson in his final season.
