Paul Smith
Playing as the defender in our 5-a-side team is one of my all-time favourite players, Paul Smith.
Smith is one of the more significant links between Port Vale and us, arriving at Sincil Bank in 1987 after a single season with the Valiants where he scored seven goals in 44 outings. Vale gave him a grounding in the Football League, but it was with us that he truly found a home after paying a club-record fee.
Smith became a driving force in the GMVC title win, a winger full of energy and personality, and he went on to make more than 300 appearances. He converted to a defender for much of his Imps tenure and would be ideal in 5-a-side with his energy.

Chris Herd! There’s a player I had forgotten about, he looked like he had a big future ahead of him when he had his loan spell with us (Vale), obviously injuries took their toll and it never really happened for him. Ainsworth and Dodds, both legends at Vale Park. Saturday should be an easy three points for you, we are dire right now – haven’t scored a single goal in our last 6 league games, heads drops as soon as we concede.
