Ambitious Lincoln United Announce Double Signing

Lincoln United have moved to strengthen both midfield and defence with the arrivals of Charlie Dunkerley and Lewis Cunningham.

The Whites continue to shape their squad for the new campaign with two experienced additions who bring pedigree from across the non-league pyramid.

Dunkerley adds drive in midfield

Charlie Dunkerley, 26, makes the switch from Bridlington Town and arrives with a reputation for energy and consistency across several East Yorkshire clubs. His path through non-league has taken him to Barton Town, Bottesford Town, Beverley Town, and North Ferriby, building a level of experience that has earned him regular trust from those he has played under.

When he joined Bridlington, manager Liam Thompson gave a detailed insight into what Dunkerley brings, sharing the background that has shaped his game.

“Charlie is a central midfielder with great energy, a player that knows and understands the way I want to play the game and one I’m sure will excite the fanbase this season.”

Dunkerley becomes the latest addition to a Lincoln United midfield group that has steadily developed depth and balance, giving the coaching staff another hard-working option in the middle of the pitch.

Cunningham strengthens the left side

23-year-old defender Lewis Cunningham arrives from Matlock Town and joins the Whites on the left side of defence. Despite his age, Cunningham already carries significant experience from a career that has taken him through a number of academy and senior environments.

A product of the Manchester City, Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers, and Birmingham City academy systems, Cunningham later moved into senior football with York City, Mickleover, and Bradford Park Avenue, while also featuring for Pontefract Collieries.

His background offers a blend of technical grounding and practical game time across multiple levels, and his ability to play in different roles across the left flank adds welcome flexibility.

Big Steps

What is interesting is both players come from clubs challenging at the top of the table – Bridlington are currently sixth, and Matlock second. The Whites are 18th, but Billy Heath is a big draw and it seems he’s being backed as well.

Both players join as preparations continue for the new era, adding further experience and competition to a Lincoln United squad looking to push on after steady structural progress in recent seasons.
