First Look At Huge Sincil Bank Tent That Ensures Peterborough United Game Goes Ahead

The temperatures are dropping, the big freeze is coming, but there is no concern about Sunday’s game against Peterborough United at Sincil Bank.

While the Uk braces itself for frozen pitches, lit woodburners and escalating heating bills, our game against Posh is in no doubt at all. That’s because, as the midday kick off on Sky, the EFL have helped us to ensure that it goes on as planned.

It’s in their interests, of course, and given that we have a break after, it’s probably in our interests as well. With that in mind, the EFL have provided a pitch-sized tent, which has now been erected over the hallowed turf, to ensure it does not freeze along with the rest of the country.

Frozen pitches and cancelled games have been an issue since football began, but as technology improves and TV coverage becomes more widespread, broadcasters have a vested interest in keeping games on. There is a sense that without the tent, the game might be in danger, as many will be on Sunday. If we could get it to go ahead, and maybe snatch a final three points of the festive season, we would be in a really strong position with points in the bag, which are better than games in hand.

The structure is impressive, and in pictures provided by the club, you can see that for yourself. It spans the entire pitch, covering the usual problem area at the South Park end of the ground, which doesn’t get the direct sunlight. With the game kicking off early, the pitch would have had less time to thaw out.

So, grab your tickets, get your big coat out, hat and gloves, pull up those thermal socks and let’s see another 9,000+ crowd pack the Bank to bring the curtain down on a really strong Christmas period.
