Ukrainian Under-21 international Ivan Varfolomeev is proving to be a huge hit after a breakthrough Christmas period.
The midfielder has turned in some solid displays after replacing the injured Tom Bayliss, and he looks certain to become a big part of our push towards the Championship over the next 22 matches.
He’s got a certain quality, an assured technique, but the work rate to match, a player who hasn’t had an easy route to Sincil Bank, but who looks every inch the fighter on the field. He could be one of the most surprising signings we’ve ever made, but it demonstrates the lengths we’ll go to in terms of scouting to get the right players.

I’m not a scout, I’m merely a writer with access to a huge database of players, and one with a Saturday afternoon to spare. So, I thought I’d drop onto Wyscout and see what other Under 21 marvels there might be out there, just for fun.
I’ve steered away from targets that would obviously be beyond us, and tried to keep it as leftfield as possible. Remember, it is just for fun, and it is a little out there, so if you don’t like these articles, just move on.
