Lincoln City sporting director Jez George has confirmed that the club will only try to add to the group if a new face will enhance the tight-knit group we already have.
City go into 2026 sitting second in the table, with a points haul few thought possible, even in the run-up to Christmas. The current crop of players have come to the fore, and right now, we’re the in-form team, the ones to beat as we stride boldly into yet another new year.
The transfer window is open for another 25 days, and many clubs will be making sweeping changes in an attempt to arrest a slide or spark a promotion push. Having already signed Josh Honohan, Jez was asked if Lincoln City would be expecting to bring more players in.
“Not many more,” he replied on the Imps YouTube channel. “Let’s not underestimate 48 points from 25 games. Massive respect to this group. It’s a special group with special players and people. The only players we can bring in are ones who buy into that and have the same characteristics and personality.”
Jez didn’t rule out additions, but it does seem that, in line with the last two winter windows, we’ll only add where the quality of the current crop will be improved upon. The summer window was as much about depth up to Christmas as it was long-term planning, hence three going back this window.

Now, as with last season and the season before, it is purely about minimal changes, and only ones that will enhance the squad, rather than simply deepen it.
“If we can add bits of quality or different attributes to enhance the group, we’ll try. It’ll be targeted and specific.
“There are one or two areas where we could add some attacking threat, and later in the window we want to make sure strength in depth doesn’t leave us vulnerable to one injury. But we also want a tight group where everyone feels involved.
“There are 21 games left, maybe more. We’ve got to get the balance and the numbers right. If the right player is there, we’ll be open, but our job is to leave the window stronger than we entered it.”
Two years ago, we brought in Joe Taylor and Conor McGrandles on loan, with Jack Moylan and Zack Bradshaw the permanent arrivals. Last season, it was only Sam Clucas and James Collins who joined permanently, and Joe Gardner who came in after Dylan Duffy left. It seems our recent policy of small changes is set to continue in early 2026.
