League One Latest: Burton Albion ‘Robbed’, Huddersfield and Reading Battle For 21-Year-Old

Burton ‘Robbed’ In West Ham Cup Controversy

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has claimed Burton Albion were “robbed” in their FA Cup tie against West Ham United.

Hackett criticised the decision not to award Burton an early penalty after defender Konstantinos Mavropanos appeared to push striker Jake Beesley inside the area. With no VAR in operation, referee Lewis Smith allowed play to continue.

West Ham eventually progressed after extra time, but Hackett described the non-award as a clear pushing offence and questioned the consistency of refereeing standards. He argued that Burton deserved better in what represented a significant financial and competitive opportunity for the League One side.

Despite the controversy, the Brewers were unable to capitalise on a strong start, while West Ham advanced to the fifth round amid continued pressure surrounding head coach Nuno Espírito Santo.
