Ref Watch: Mansfield Town v Lincoln City

Referee: David Rock
Assistant Referees: Drew Dutton, Stephen Wade, Stephen
Fourth Official: Daniel Smith

David Rock is an official we have seen a couple of times at Sincil Bank. He first refereed a Lincoln game in 2014, overseeing our 3-1 defeat away at Woking, with him first visiting Sincil Bank later in the season as we beat Southport 1-0. We saw him for a third time in March 2015, as we drew 1-1 at Wrexham.

He didn’t officiate us at all in Chris Moyses’ full season in charge, but in our historic 2016/17 season, he was the referee as we went down away at Dover, losing 2-0. He was also the referee who sent off Sean Raggett early in our 1-0 November win against Wrexham at Sincil Bank.

Rock joined the Football League referee list and his first game involving Lincoln was our 2-0 defeat at Plymouth in the FA Cup, a game in which he booked seven players. Since 20/21 he has been in charge of a few of our matches, including overseeing our 2-1 home defeat by Fleetwood Town in League One. The next occasion was at the start of the 2022/23 campaign, on August 6, 2022, as we opened our away fixtures with a 0-0 draw away at Portsmouth. Later that same season, we edged a dramatic 3-2 victory over Port Vale at Sincil Bank, with a penalty and three red cards, one of which for Port Vale was very harsh indeed.

Moving into 2023/24, Rock took charge of our 3-0 away win at Cambridge United on in November, a game mentioned as being one of the top ten most dominant performances of Michael Skubala’s Lincoln City coaching career. Rock also did the 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic in February 2024, the 1-0 away success at Stevenage in August 2024 whcih saw Jack Moylan score a penalty, and Paudie O’Connor get sent off, and then the narrow 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City in March 2025, another penalty, this time against us. Most recently, Rock refereed our 2-1 home victory over Doncaster Rovers in League One.

Rock has officiated 13 League One matches this season, and is 37/64 for fouls per game, so about average. For fouls per tackle, he is 42/64, and yellows per game, he is 10/64. That does suggest he is a little bit card happy, something worth bearing in mind when flying into tackles!
