League One Latest: Former Imps Striker Still Injured, Luton Town Fans Told They Have Right To Boo

Nolan fears Wormleighton could be out until season run-in

Northampton Town defender Joe Wormleighton could miss most of the rest of the season due to a knee problem, with Kevin Nolan admitting the club may be “looking near the end of the season” for his return.

Nolan delivered the update in his pre-match press conference, and the wording was as bleak as it sounded. “He’s got a knee problem and we’re waiting for the specialists to come back to us but we need to be careful with him,” he said, describing it as “a bit of a strange one”.

It is a particularly sharp blow because Nolan also emphasised how well Wormleighton had been doing. He called it “unfortunate because he was having a fantastic first season”, and added: “He’ll be a big miss because he’s a lovely character.”

The injury list does not stop there. Nolan said Kyle Edwards is “still a good few weeks away”, while Liam Shaw is also not close. Skipper Jon Guthrie is expected back on the grass soon, but Tuesday’s game comes too quickly.

Northampton’s immediate priority is simply getting enough bodies back to compete, because losing reliability at the back this late in the campaign can change the temperature around a club very quickly.
