League One Latest: Former Imps Striker Still Injured, Luton Town Fans Told They Have Right To Boo

Legge: Port Vale “fold under pressure” and look fragile

Former Port Vale skipper Leon Legge has questioned the Valiants’ mentality, claiming the current side “seem to fold” when pressure arrives, as their relegation trouble deepens.

Vale did at least salvage a point at home to play-off chasing Reading thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser, but one win in seven and a 13-point gap to safety is the sort of context that turns analysis into an alarm bell.

Legge’s focus was on the basics, especially set-pieces. “A bit of pressure and we seem to fold,” he said, contrasting the current approach with his own preference for attacking deliveries into the box. In his view, when the ball comes in, Vale “don’t seem to clear our lines well enough”.

His most pointed criticism arrived when discussing reaction after conceding. “It seems like as soon as a goal goes in, the life just goes out of them,” he said, arguing there is too little visible leadership, too little confrontation, and too little urgency to reset.

The numbers support the theme, Vale have taken only six points from 18 matches when conceding first, with their only comeback win coming in the 5-1 win over Blackpool on New Year’s Day.

Next comes a trip to Northampton on Tuesday night, and Legge’s message is stark: survival starts with resilience, and right now Vale do not look like a side that trusts itself.
