League One Latest: Job To Go At Plymouth Argyle, Manchester United Youngster Backed

Wigan Athletic recall Leo Graham from Bury loan

Wigan Athletic have activated a recall clause to bring attacker Leo Graham back from his loan spell at Bury, ending a productive stint that yielded five goals and four assists.

Although the move itself concerns a player outside League One action on a weekly basis, the key detail is Wigan’s decision to pull him back at this stage of the season. Graham had become an important figure for Bury during their unbeaten run after initially joining on a short-term deal before extending his stay until the end of the campaign.

Bury were full of praise for the youngster, who made 17 appearances and left a strong impression during his time at Gigg Lane. Whether Wigan now intend to use him more closely around the first-team setup or simply reassess his next step remains to be seen, but it is clearly a move they felt worth making now rather than in the summer.

“Everyone at Bury FC would like to thank Leo for his efforts and commitment while representing the Shakers.

“He has been a great professional during his time at the club, and we’re grateful for the contribution he has made in a Bury shirt.

“Making his debut off the bench against Witton Albion, initially on a short term loan, Leo went on to play an integral part in our unbeaten run from the end of November, contributing five goals and four assists in 17 appearances, including the winner in our 1-0 victory at Chasetown.”

For Wigan, it is a small but interesting squad call as clubs across the division begin to think carefully about how every available option can be used in the closing weeks.
