Celtic Eye Huddersfield Town Talent as Transfer Interest Intensifies

Interest in Huddersfield Town youngster Cameron Ashia is beginning to gather pace, with Celtic among the clubs reportedly keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s progress.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising young players at the John Smith’s Stadium this season, and his development has not gone unnoticed. Ashia has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in League One, becoming a regular presence in Huddersfield’s senior squad after initially arriving through the club’s B Team system in 2024. His performances in midfield have demonstrated maturity beyond his years, and he has already made 29 appearances for the Terriers during the current campaign.

Celtic’s reported interest could set up a potential transfer battle north of the border. Rangers are also said to be tracking the midfielder, raising the prospect that the Glasgow rivals could compete directly for his signature should Huddersfield decide to cash in.

Several English clubs are also thought to be keeping tabs on Ashia. Championship sides Bristol City and Preston North End have been credited with monitoring his development, while earlier speculation linked him with Birmingham City, Stoke City and Queens Park Rangers.

Rapid rise

Ashia’s rise has been rapid since his arrival in West Yorkshire. Before joining Huddersfield, the midfielder spent time developing with the Fox Academy in London and also had a spell in the youth system at Derby County. His move to the Terriers was viewed as an opportunity to accelerate his progress in a structured development programme.

At the time of his signing, Huddersfield’s head of academy recruitment Lee Mellor spoke highly of the young midfielder’s potential.

“Cameron impressed us all during his trial period and we’re delighted to officially welcome him to the club today as a full-time member of the young Terriers.

“He’s got some good qualities that work well in his favoured position as an attack-minded midfielder.”

Those early assessments appear to have been justified, with Ashia quickly progressing through the club’s ranks and establishing himself around the first-team picture.

There has been some confusion surrounding his contractual situation. Reports in recent months have suggested the midfielder could be approaching the end of his deal this summer. However, Huddersfield previously announced that Ashia had signed a contract running until 2027, which would place the club in a stronger negotiating position if interest intensifies.
