Five League One Players That Would Suit a Championship Lincoln City

Toby Sibbick (Burton Albion)

26-year-old Sibbick came through the AFC Wimbledon system and made his breakthrough into senior football there, earning a move to Barnsley, where he gained experience in the Championship. During his time with Barnsley, he had loan spells away, including time in Scotland with Heart of Midlothian and a short stint in Belgium with Oostende, before eventually returning to Hearts on a permanent deal. His period in Scotland saw him play regularly across several seasons and competitions, giving him a solid run of first-team football before he moved back to England.

He returned to League One with Wigan Athletic and then moved to Burton Albion in 2025, where he has been a regular in the side during the 2025-26 season. Used mainly as a centre-back but capable of filling in across the defence, he has started the majority of Burton’s league matches and played over 2,400 minutes this season, contributing an assist and being a consistent presence in their defensive unit. Alongside his club career, he has also represented Uganda at international level, adding international experience to a career that has included time in England, Scotland and Belgium.

This might be a borderline pick, but I have included Sibbick for a reason. Depending on where we deploy Honohan, I think we’re going to need cover at full-back. Elerewe, Hamer and Towler are all young and hungry in the middle of the defence, and Sonny Bradley may well fancy life back in the second tier. On the flanks, we have Tendayi and Honohan, with Towler and Hamer able to cover. That’s not going to be enough.

Sibbick has quality from higher up, having played for Hearts and been valued highly there. He’s 12th in the division’s 27-and-under category for defensive duels, 213, with a 73.71 success rate. They’re solid enough numbers, but he’s also able to play across the back line, in both right-back and left-back positions. I’m not saying he’d be an obvious pick, but given his previous clubs, I think he could make a bottom-end Championship side a little more flexible defensively as part of a squad.
