Rotherham United continue backroom reset under Clark
Assistant manager Dale Tonge has left Rotherham United as Lee Clark continues reshaping the club’s coaching setup.
Tonge, a former Millers midfielder who made 163 league appearances for the club between 2007 and 2013, had only joined the staff last summer under Matt Hamshaw. With Hamshaw dismissed last week and Rotherham sitting in the League One relegation zone, Clark has wasted little time in making further changes.
That departure says plenty about the scale of the task facing Rotherham. This is not simply a case of a new manager arriving and tweaking a few details, it is a wider attempt to change the feel around a struggling side before the season runs away from them completely.
“I would like to personally thank Dale for his help in making it easy for me to settle into the club. He is a terrific person and a top coach,” said Clark.
The club have already said another announcement will follow regarding Clark’s new assistant. With the Millers fighting at the wrong end of the table, they need the new regime to deliver points rather than just a different voice.
