League One Latest: Promotion-Hunting Side Post £13m Losses, Northampton Manager Search Continues

League One continues to deliver stories both on and off the pitch, from managerial searches and transfer interest to finances and legal battles, as the season heads towards its conclusion.

There is plenty happening across the division at the moment, and here is the latest round-up from around League One.

Northampton edging towards managerial decision

Northampton Town are moving closer to appointing a new manager, but the final decision will not be made until the end of the season, according to interim boss Colin Calderwood.

Calderwood confirmed the club have continued discussions internally and expect to narrow the list of candidates within the next ten days. However, chairman Kelvin Thomas has already stated that the appointment itself will be delayed until the season concludes, meaning Calderwood and Ian Sampson will remain in charge in the meantime.

“We’ve continued the process over the last week,” “We’re just doing the right things and taking steps towards it. Conversations are taking place and we’re edging towards an outcome but I think I’ll be saying the same thing tomorrow and after the game on Friday.”

The Northampton situation is one to watch because timing matters. Clubs often prefer to wait until the end of the season so they can approach managers currently in jobs, and that appears to be the route they are taking here. It also suggests the club are thinking longer term rather than rushing an appointment.

With the season nearing its conclusion, the Cobblers will finish the campaign under interim leadership before starting next season with a new manager and potentially a new direction.
