Five Lincoln City Players Who Will Thrive In The Championship

Deji Elerewe

This might seem like a mad pick. Deji has played 68 minutes in League One for the Imps this season. We’ve seen so little of him, and in fairness, even what we have seen has been mixed. In the nine minutes he was on the field against Wimbledon, he contested seven duels and lost every single one. There is no evidence either way that Deji is going to be a big player for us. There is no evidence to the contrary either, by the way.

I just think I see something there. Bear in mind, I backed Erik Ring to be a big success this season, so it’s a good job I’m not a scout, but I suspect in Deji we’ve unearthed a player with Championship potential. He’s not played 100 senior games yet, it really is potential over proven ability, but just watching how he moves, where he runs to, his composure and posture, he just feels classy.

I spoke to Sam Habergham before the game, who spoke highly of him, having played with him at Wealdstone. Behind the scenes, I’ve heard lots of good things about his attitude, his desire to rise through the divisions and be a success. He’s young, he’s risen rapidly already, and he’s the exact profile of player we’ve made a success of over the last 12 months.

This one might be more gut feeling than an evidential pick, but I can just see him being a big name for us next season.
