An anonymous Reading FC player has criticised Leam Richardson’s tactics and man-management, with dressing room tensions reportedly rising after a damaging run of results.
A 1-0 defeat against Doncaster Rovers has intensified scrutiny on the Royals, with concerns now emerging from inside the camp as their play-off hopes fade.
According to reports, frustration has been building among members of the squad, with complaints centred on selection decisions, tactical changes, and how players are being deployed. Issues raised include limited playing time for some individuals, players being deployed out of position, and dissatisfaction with in-game adjustments, particularly changes of formation.
Dressing room unrest surfaces
One unnamed player is said to have voiced concerns over the current situation, admitting to growing frustration within the group and pointing to a recurring problem that has plagued Reading in recent weeks.
“We should be able to close out games,” is one quote attributed to the unnamed player.
Reading have dropped 11 points from winning positions across five matches in the past three months, with late goals proving especially costly. Fixtures against Exeter City, Bolton Wanderers, Port Vale, Huddersfield Town, and us have all seen points slip away deep into added time, including four goals conceded in the 90+6th minute. In fairness, they only got back into our game with seconds left of normal time, but the point still stands.
Those collapses have placed a spotlight on game management, with the suggestion that tactical decisions during matches have contributed to the repeated inability to see out results.

Pressure builds on Richardson at Reading
Supporter frustration has also grown following the defeat to Doncaster, with calls for change increasing as the season nears its conclusion. Despite that, Richardson is understood to retain the backing of the club’s hierarchy for now.
When he was appointed in October, owner Rob Couhig spoke in glowing terms about the former Wigan Athletic boss, highlighting his work ethic, organisational qualities and track record of success in difficult circumstances.
“I have admired Leam for some time.” “He is a coach and leader who embodies exactly the qualities we want at Reading, hard work, diligence, organisation and an absolute commitment to improving players.”
“He achieved promotion from League One in extremely difficult circumstances and proved he can build success. He is humble, driven, and he builds strong, honest cultures.”
He might well be, but on current form, Reading supporters won’t be prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Whoever the anonymous player is, they’ve done a huge amount of damage to the club. There are surely two options available to them now: root out the mole, name and shame to help restore order, or remove the manager. However, the latter leaves the dressing room intact, a dressing room clearly lacking respect, while the former leaves a manager under fire from the stands in situ.
