Champions: Doncaster Rovers 0-2 Imps

Doncaster made a change at the break, with Gotts withdrawn and Broadbent introduced, but it was City who started the half on the front foot.

Within a couple of minutes, the ball was in the net, a long throw flicked on by Towler, but the whistle had already gone for a foul and the effort was ruled out. City continued to press, Moylan weaving into the area soon after and Street latching onto the loose ball, only to be denied by a strong save from Lo-Tutala.

Doncaster’s first real sight after the restart saw Lee pull the ball back for Senior, but he sliced his effort badly, the chance drifting harmlessly wide. A brief spell of possession followed for the visitors, Adelakun finding space out wide before firing an effort that was neither a cross nor a shot and caused little concern.

City responded with a set-piece of their own, a free kick dropping to Bradley, who helped it on to Oné, his effort blocked. That proved to be his final involvement as he was replaced by Hackett soon after.
The visitors made further changes just past the hour, Nixon and Gibson coming on for Sterry and Clifton, but City continued to look the more threatening.

Varfolomeev delivered a free kick after McGrandles had been fouled, the ball nodded clear at the near post, and from the resulting pressure, a second corner was swung to the back stick where Bradley again got his head to it, but could only send it over.

City were pushing hard now. Hamer had two efforts in quick succession, the first dropping kindly before a second attempt was blocked, and moments later Moylan cut in from the right and fired narrowly across goal.

The pressure finally told on 72 minutes. Another long throw was not dealt with, and House was left free inside the area to head home and double City’s advantage, a goal that had been coming.

Doncaster’s frustrations showed soon after, Grehan going into the book after pulling Moylan back, with the referee eventually halting play following a second foul.

Doncaster made another double change on 77 minutes, Adelakun replaced by Middleton and Lee making way for Robinson as they looked for a way back into the game.

City, however, remained on top. Hackett whipped a dangerous ball to the back post on 80 minutes that looked to be drifting out, but House stretched to connect, his effort lacking the power to trouble Lo-Tutala, who gathered comfortably.

Two minutes later, City went agonisingly close to adding a third. Street saw an effort come back off the inside of the post, Hackett reacted quickly to the rebound but his follow-up was blocked, and Street, eager to score against his former loan club, smashed the loose ball into the side netting.

There was a warm moment shortly after as Street was withdrawn, receiving applause from both sets of supporters as he left the pitch.

As a minimum of six minutes got indicated by the referee, the 3,000-strong awat support burst out into a rendition of ‘champions’, while the stadium announcer warned against a pitch invasion.

Six minutes later, Lincoln City were champions of League One. Unreal.
