Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala said he believes his side have made ‘dreams come true’ by lifting the League One title this season.
The Imps secured the top prize with a couple of games to spare, taking three points against a lacklustre Doncaster when one would suffice. The result was never in doubt, not even when Rob Street’s first-half penalty was saved.
Ben House popped up with one in each half to ensure the Imps promotion was coloured in with a trophy. Now, there are two games to go out and break the 100 points barrier, and pick up the record for the longest unbeaten streak in League One.
After the game, Michael gave a passionate interview in which he extolled the virtues of the Imps players for delivering such a wonderful campaign.
“I think this group, I keep saying it, is an excellent group. Together, they win at work. They deserve it, they really deserve it. Not just what we’ve done, but how they’ve done it. Like you say, promotion, and they go again, you see it.
“It would be easy to take your foot off the gas and not go and get the win after getting promoted, but I think the most impressive thing tonight was we were us.
“When you look at that performance, it’s probably one of the best performances of the season. I thought we totally dominated them. It could have been three, it could have been four, the chances were great, especially second half.
“That’s a team that really wants to win a game of football, but the best way is to be totally us in doing it, and it epitomises the season.”

Maybe the one performance did epitomise the season, in more ways than one, but overall, nothing is typical about this campaign. We’re all losing count of how many games it is unbeaten, and how many more records we might be able to break. It is beyond everyone’s wildest dreams, but as Michael said, dreaming is for us, not for them.
“I’ve said from day one, our job is not to dream. Our job is to stay focused, to keep concentrated, because that’s what we do. That’s the staff and the players, and you can see how well they’ve done that.
“But we’ve made some dreams come true, and I just think it’s unbelievable. Let’s now go and attack the Championship and see what happens.”
City face Wycombe this weekend in a celebration of the 1975/76 season. The game has been earmarked to remember that great side, which sealed promotion against Doncaster with a 5-0 drubbing.
50 years on, as we remember them, we’ll be presented with another trophy, this one for a footballing feat that might even eclipse that record-breaking side.
