Six Global Players Lincoln City Could See Value In This Summer

Nobuteru Nakagawa

Nobuteru Nakagawa is perhaps the more complicated fit. The 23-year-old Kashiwa Reysol midfielder looks hugely talented, but stylistically, he may not align quite as naturally with Lincoln City’s current approach.

Part of his unusual development path comes from the Japanese football system itself. Nakagawa has only played two professional seasons despite being 23, largely because university and high school football remain highly respected within Japan. Brighton midfielder Kaoru Mitoma famously delayed turning professional to attend university, and Nakagawa has followed a similar delayed pathway.

During the 2025 season, he played 1,666 minutes across 21 matches, scoring three goals and adding four assists from midfield. Reysol were one of the J League’s dominant possession sides, finishing with the most passes, the highest possession numbers and the most clean sheets while operating almost exclusively in a 3-4-2-1 system.

Nakagawa’s statistical profile is outstanding. His defensive actions, progressive carries and chance creation numbers all stand out, particularly for a midfielder operating deeper in the pitch. His passing data is exactly what you would expect from a possession-heavy side, but clips suggest there is far more to him than simply recycling the ball safely.

He looks technically excellent under pressure, regularly receiving possession in tight spaces before turning and driving forward through midfield. Despite his lack of senior experience, he already appears composed and mature in possession, often carrying the ball confidently through central areas.

The biggest concern is physicality. At 173cm, he lacks the size typically associated with Championship central midfielders, and his aerial numbers reflect that weakness. However, footage suggests he is far from timid physically. He willingly competes in duels and often bounces straight back into challenges after initial contact.

Lincoln supporters have already seen players such as Jack Moylan add physical strength after arriving at the club, and Nakagawa’s low centre of gravity could help him adapt similarly. Even so, while the talent is obvious, he may simply suit a possession-dominant side more naturally than Lincoln’s current setup.
