Bolton Wanderers Face Transfer Fight For Liverpool Prospect

Bolton Wanderers are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Liverpool winger Kieran Morrison on loan, with Championship rivals Middlesbrough also expected to show interest in the 19-year-old.

The Northern Ireland international is regarded as one of the more exciting young talents in Liverpool’s academy setup, but regular senior football at Anfield may be difficult to come by next season. That could open the door for a temporary move, with Bolton now named alongside several other clubs monitoring the situation.

Morrison has been linked with Bolton, Middlesbrough, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley, while German side Schalke are also said to be keen. That leaves Liverpool with a decision to make if they choose to send him out, as they will need to assess which club offers the best pathway for his next stage of development.

For Bolton, the interest is a sign of the market they are now working in after sealing promotion back to the Championship. Wanderers have returned to the second tier for the first time in seven years, and the step up naturally brings a different level of recruitment challenge.

A loan move for a Premier League prospect would fit that picture. Morrison would offer attacking flair, technical quality and a point to prove, while Bolton would be able to give him exposure to competitive senior football in a demanding division.

Liverpool Man Ready For Senior Test

Morrison has already had a taste of first-team football at Liverpool. He made his senior debut in the EFL Cup defeat to Crystal Palace on 29 October 2025, before appearing again in the FA Cup win away at Wolves in March.

He was also part of Liverpool’s wider first-team picture during the campaign, making the bench for several Premier League fixtures, although he did not get on in the league. His progress at youth level has been clear, with Morrison producing heavily for Liverpool’s under-21 side and earning recognition as one of the club’s standout academy players.

Morrison made his senior Northern Ireland debut yesterday, playing the first half of their 1-0 friendly win over Guinea. Manager Michael O’Neill praised his contribution afterwards, saying the teenager had given “a good account of himself” during his time on the pitch.

Liverpool tied Morrison down to a new long-term contract in May, which suggests they see a future for him at the club. Bolton would be an interesting option if they can offer him a meaningful role. The problem for the Trotters is that they are unlikely to be alone in making that case, and with Middlesbrough, Burnley, Wolves and Schalke all in the picture, this could quickly become a difficult loan race to win.
