Nominate Your Favourite Lincoln City Players of the 21st Century

We’re in that lull between season ending and pre-season starting, where news is hard to come by.

After last week’s earthquake revelation that Michael Skubala was leaving and the appointment of Chris and Tom, everything seems to have settled down. We’ve been linked to a couple of players we’re not likely to sign, but that’s about it.

It seems like a good time for a vote, doesn’t it?

A long while ago now, we did the top 100 players of a generation, won by Gareth Ainsworth. The only player from the 21st Century in the top three was Peter Gain, but that was six years ago. Has anything changed in that time? What if you couldn’t vote for Trevor Peake, Dave Smith and Sir Gareth? Who would you pick then?

We’re going to give you a week to vote for your favourite players of the last 26 (ish) years, and when you’re all done, we’re going to create a Top 50 Lincoln City Players of the 21st Century. This is entirely your vote, nothing more, nothing less, and it isn’t going to be easy. Think about those magical Keith years, when we came from the brink of collapse to the brink of promotion.

What about 2006/07, when for six months, John Schofield had us playing like Barcelona? Then ten years after that were tough, but there were good players passing through, maybe you have a thing for Jamie Taylor or Ben Tomlinson? It’ll be hard to imagine them getting in over any of the 2016/17 players, but where do the Checkatrade winning squad rank?

Now, do you vote for loan players, or not? Davide Somma came in at 44 in the top players of a generation vote, but what about Morgan Rogers or Brennan Johnson? Three European trophies between them since, but did their Lincoln City spells stand out above Jorge Grant? Or Jack Moylan?

That brings us to this year’s team, far greater than the sum of its parts, but what of those parts? Which of those players rank in your top five this century?
