Sheffield United are tracking Rapid Wien midfielder Romeo Amane ahead of the summer transfer window, but Wrexham and Birmingham City are also in the hunt.
The 23-year-old has emerged as a target for the three Championship clubs with clear ambitions of competing at the top end of the division next season, with Peter O’Rourke reporting that the trio are eyeing moves for the highly-rated Ivorian.
Amane is currently with Rapid Wien, having joined the Austrian side from BK Häcken in January 2025. He has quickly become an important figure in midfield, adding European experience to a CV that already includes regular senior football in Sweden and continental competition.
O’Rourke claims Birmingham, Wrexham and the Blades have all been monitoring the player in recent months.
Championship Trio Tracking Amane
Sheffield United are likely to have significant work to do this summer as they reshape their squad for another Championship campaign. A move for Amane would fit the profile of a player with first-team experience, resale potential and room for further development.
Birmingham are expected to be active again as they look to build a squad capable of challenging near the top of the Championship, while Wrexham, who just missed out on the play-offs, look to strengthen and continue their rise through the divisions.
Amane began his senior European career with BK Häcken after coming through ASEC Mimosas, making 69 league appearances and scoring five goals for the Swedish side. He also helped Häcken win the 2022 Allsvenskan title before later earning his move to Rapid Wien.
Since arriving in Austria, he has continued to feature regularly. He has 33 league appearances and one goal for Rapid Wien, while his overall senior career record stands at more than 100 league appearances despite his age.
The midfielder is generally used in a central role, with the ability to play deeper. He is not regarded as a prolific goalscorer, but his game is built more around energy, ball use and midfield control. That profile could appeal to all three Championship clubs.
Amane is under contract at Rapid Wien, so any move would require an agreement with the Austrian club, one running well into seven figures. However, with English interest now being reported, the midfielder could become one to watch as Championship recruitment plans begin to accelerate.
