Premier League Pair Chase Birmingham Striker
Ipswich Town and Hull City are both credited with interest in Birmingham City striker Jay Stansfield after securing promotion to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old is said to be valued at around £25 million by Birmingham, who paid a sizeable fee to sign him permanently from Fulham in 2024 after his successful loan spell at St Andrew’s. Last season, Stansfield scored 10 league goals and added six assists as Blues returned to the Championship, although they were unable to mount a sustained play-off push.
For newly promoted clubs, Stansfield’s profile is obvious. He is young, already proven in the second tier, and has the scope to develop further, which is why the report claims he “ticks a lot of boxes” for both Ipswich and Hull as they look to strengthen their forward options.
Birmingham’s position is also easy to understand. They invested heavily to bring him in, they retain ambitions of reaching the Premier League themselves, and they would expect a substantial profit if he were to move on. That leaves any interested club facing a difficult negotiation, especially with Blues under no obvious pressure to sell one of their main attacking assets.
