Scottish Premier League Side Eyeing Move For Former Lincoln City Loanee

SPFL outfit Falkirk are thought to be eyeing a move for Ipswich Town midfielder Fin Barbrook, who spent the first half of last season on loan at Lincoln City.

The 21-year-old arrived at the Bank last summer on a year-long loan, but didn’t make an appearance in League One. He did play in the EFL Trophy, and certainly impressed: he was tidy on the ball, hard-working, and just suffered by being behind Conor McGrandles and Ivan Varfolomeev in the pecking order.

He had a good spell at Colchester United after leaving the Imps, and that has reportedly led to Falkirk eyeing a move. The Barins finished sixth in the top flight last season, which was just outside the European qualification spots. With an eye on getting one place higher, Barbrook seems like a good option, given his obvious ability. It’s reported they want the player on loan, and that’s likely due to Ipswich rating him highly enough to command a substantial fee.

That interest comes with him still waiting for a league breakthrough at Ipswich, but with a decent amount of senior football already behind him. He came through the academy at Portman Road after an earlier time with Colchester United, signing professional terms in 2023 alongside twin brother Harry before captaining the Under-21s and being named Ipswich’s Academy Player of the Year in 2024.

His loan spells have done most of the shaping so far. Barbrook played regularly for Chelmsford City, then made 33 league appearances for Sutton United in 2024/25, scoring twice and winning both Players’ Player and Young Player of the Year. Last season was more stop-start, with his loan ending after three EFL Trophy appearances, against Man Utd Under 21s, Barnsley and Notts County, all games City won to nil.

His time with Danny Cowley’s Colchester was more productive, and he finished it with 16 League Two games and a goal. That capped off a season that started with him playing for Ipswich in the League Cup against Bromley, coming off after 70 minutes.
