Birmingham City are closing in on the permanent signing of Palermo left-back Kristoffer Lund, with negotiations now reported to have entered their final stages.
The Blues have been in discussions with the Italian club after identifying the 24-year-old as a possible addition to Chris Davies’ squad. According to reports from Italy, Lund is moving increasingly closer to St Andrew’s and is expected to join Birmingham unless the deal suffers a late setback.
An agreement has not yet been completed, with the two clubs still needing to settle the remaining details of the transfer. Birmingham must also agree personal terms with Lund before the defender can undergo a medical, although the expectation is that those final steps should not present a significant obstacle.
The proposed move is understood to be a permanent transfer rather than another loan. No fee has been disclosed, and there has been no indication of the length of contract Birmingham are prepared to offer.
Lund returned to Palermo this summer after spending the 2025/26 campaign on loan with Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln. He made 33 league appearances and another two in the DFB-Pokal, but Köln decided against activating the €3 million purchase option included in their agreement.
That has allowed Birmingham to move into position for a player who already possesses considerable experience across several European leagues. Lund began his senior career with Midtjylland before briefly joining Esbjerg and then moving to Sweden with BK Häcken in 2021.
He played 75 times across all competitions for Häcken, helping the club win the Allsvenskan title in 2022 and the Swedish Cup during the following campaign. Palermo signed him in August 2023, and he went on to make 68 Serie B appearances across two seasons, scoring three goals.
Although born in Denmark, Lund represents the United States at senior international level through his American mother. He previously appeared for Denmark at several youth age groups before completing a one-time international switch in 2023, later earning seven caps for the United States.
Primarily a left-back, Lund would provide Birmingham with an experienced and athletic option on that side of the pitch. His arrival would also continue the club’s efforts to strengthen Davies’ squad with players who have already operated regularly at a high level overseas.
The remaining negotiations mean the transfer is not yet guaranteed, but the latest reports suggest Birmingham are well placed to complete the deal once club terms, personal terms and medical checks have been finalised.
