There was plenty of midweek action for our local non-league sides, with Spalding United producing the standout result on their travels, writes David Ward.
Spennymoor Town 1-3 Spalding United
Spalding United continued their excellent run with a superb 3-1 victory away at Spennymoor Town in National League North.
The hosts started strongly and created a couple of good opportunities to take the lead, but the Tulips grew in confidence as the contest progressed. Spennymoor eventually made their early pressure count on the half-hour mark and, at that stage, the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game.
Falling behind seemed to spur Spalding into action. They enjoyed the better of the remaining first-half exchanges, although the home side retained their advantage going into the interval.
Spalding came out fighting after the break and had the ball in the net within a minute, only for the referee to disallow it for a reason that appeared to leave both teams unsure. It was a significant reprieve for Spennymoor, but the visitors continued to dominate, creating chances and forcing the home goalkeeper into several fine saves.
The deserved equaliser finally arrived in the 63rd minute when Bart Cybulski curled a wonderful effort into the top-left corner. Spennymoor responded by pushing forward in search of a second goal, but the Tulips defended well and prevented their pressure from developing into clear opportunities.
Spalding then struck twice in the closing stages, with Cybulski scoring in the 86th and 88th minutes to complete his hat-trick and secure all three points. It was a magnificent result and a memorable evening for the Tulips.
Pinchbeck United 0-7 Clipstone
Pinchbeck United welcomed league leaders Clipstone in a fixture that looked extremely difficult on paper, particularly given the recent form of the two sides.
Unfortunately for the hosts, those fears proved well founded. Clipstone established a commanding 4-0 advantage before half-time, leaving Pinchbeck with no realistic route back into the contest.
The visitors added another three goals during the second half to complete a comprehensive victory. The result left Pinchbeck near the bottom of the table with a goal difference of minus 24, suggesting it could be a long and challenging season.

Southwell City 1-1 Louth Town
Louth Town made a bright start away at Southwell City and took the lead after 14 minutes through another magnificent free-kick from Krisztian Gagyi.
His spectacular strike from around 30 yards gave the visitors an early advantage, but Southwell responded and equalised in the 25th minute. The sides remained level at the interval.
There was action at both ends during the second half, although the hosts generally looked the more threatening. Louth required two fantastic late saves from their goalkeeper to preserve parity and secure a valuable point on the road.
Radford 1-1 Harrowby United
Harrowby United returned to action following their weekend postponement and came away from Radford with a point.
Both goals arrived during the first half of an evenly contested encounter. Neither side could find a winner after the break, with the draw appearing a fair outcome in front of a sparse attendance of just 49.
The result added another important point to Harrowby’s total.
Boston United 0-1 West Bromwich Albion PL2
Boston United welcomed West Bromwich Albion’s PL2 side in the National League Cup and produced a good overall performance.
The teams went into half-time level after an evenly matched opening period, but an own goal on the hour proved decisive. It handed the Baggies victory in what was an entertaining contest.
Grimsby Borough 7-0 Gainsborough Trinity
Gainsborough Trinity fielded a weakened side for their Lincolnshire Cup first-round tie away at Grimsby Borough.
The hosts took full advantage, recording an emphatic 7-0 victory to eliminate the Blues from the competition.
