Norwich City Face Contract Setback Over England Under-20 Forward

Norwich City’s efforts to agree a new deal with Errol Mundle-Smith have reportedly stalled, leaving the young forward’s future unresolved. According to Pete O’Rourke, the England Under-20 international’s existing contract expires next summer.

The development comes at a frustrating point in the 20-year-old’s season, with his involvement so far falling short of the breakthrough he enjoyed last term. Although he was included in the squad against Portsmouth, Mundle-Smith has yet to make a senior appearance during the current campaign.

O’Rourke’s update does not explain what has prevented negotiations from progressing. There is also no suggestion in his report that Mundle-Smith has decided to leave, with an agreement over an extension still outstanding.

From Croydon To Championship Football

Mundle-Smith’s rise has been relatively swift, having played non-league football with Croydon in 2023 after developing through the Kinetic Foundation. He joined Norwich’s academy that September and earned his first professional contract the following summer.

His senior debut arrived against Hull City in November 2025, beginning a campaign in which he made 13 Championship appearances and two further outings in the FA Cup. International recognition followed in March, when he made his England Under-20 debut against Italy.

Norwich highlighted that journey in a club feature published last month, with Mundle-Smith reflecting on how his experiences outside the professional game had helped prepare him. Discussing his development, he said:

“Playing in those lower tiers of football really helped me develop my game and get me to where I am today.”

That progress provides the background to a contract decision which now carries greater significance for both parties. Norwich have already helped him move from academy football into senior and international contention, but his place in their immediate plans remains less established.

The Canaries’ wider circumstances add another complication, with the club sitting 21st after five consecutive defeats, all by a single-goal margin. Improving results is the immediate priority, while decisions over the squad’s longer-term development still need attention.
