Gomez Dali, 4 Minutes, March 2013, Braintree Town, 3-0

Gomez Dali’s first Lincoln City start lasted just four minutes. Following a tussle with Matt Paine, referee Lee Swabey judged that Dali had stamped on the Braintree defender and produced a straight red card. Gary Simpson made his displeasure clear afterwards: “It was unbelievable to have a lad sent off in the first few minutes and stupidly, which I’m not happy about.”

What followed was a remarkable response from the ten men, who secured a 3-0 away victory despite playing almost the entire match a player short. Tony Diagne put City ahead with a spectacular looping volley before adding a second with a powerful free-kick. Andrew Boyce headed in the third to complete a victory which ensured Dali’s disastrous first start did not cost his teammates the points.

Remarkably, Dali played again for the Imps, getting 14 minutes as wel lost 3-0 at Luton.
