Five Fastest Lincoln City Red Cards Of All Time

Glenn Humphries, 6 Minutes, March 1987, Hartlepool United, 1-2

Glenn Humphries’ Lincoln debut lasted just six minutes. The defender, newly arrived on loan from Doncaster, was penalised for a foul on Kevin Dixon and then appeared to tread on the striker as he walked away. The incident happened directly in front of referee Hendrick, who sent Humphries off. City reorganised, with fellow loan signing Derek Hood moving into defence and Willie Gamble dropping deeper, leaving Jimmy Gilligan to lead the attack.

Despite the setback, City took the lead when Gilligan headed Richard Cooper’s corner back towards Jack McGinley, who nodded past Eddie Blackburn. Lincoln threatened to extend their advantage, but Hartlepool turned the game around after the interval. Alan Shoulder equalised from the penalty spot after Lee Butler challenged former Imp Andy Toman, then struck again from ten yards following a partially cleared cross. Humphries’ early dismissal ultimately proved too great a handicap as City lost to fellow strugglers.
