Daily Quiz #132

The last time we played Port Vale was March 2011. What was our forward pairing that day (HINT remember what you've learned here)

Correct! Wrong!

Well done. Drewe Broughton is never the answer.

Which of those players scored our 3rd minute opener, a lead that would have kept us up had we hung on to it.

Correct! Wrong!

You're learning

In January of that year we beat them 1-0 thanks to a strike by which on-loan player?

Correct! Wrong!

Did you pick him thinking it was all a trick? Did you?

December 2009 saw them beat us 2-1 at the Bank. Which player, later jailed, made his debut for Lincoln that night?

Correct! Wrong!

Broughton was never jailed, although some elements of the Imps support would have liked to see it.

February 2009, we won 1-0 at Vale Park thanks to Dany N'Guessan. Here's a really tough question though: which of our BSP players appeared for Port Vale that night?

Correct! Wrong!

To make it easier you've only got three players who were BSP. Sam Smith was a youngster when he signed for us, so it's 50/50 between Taylor and Perry. Taylor was from the South, Perry the North West. Simple deduction my dear Watson.

In 2006/07 it was Port Vale knocking us out of which competition?

Correct! Wrong!

Which home-grown player made his debut that day for City?

Correct! Wrong!

You see, it is deduction against. Hutchinson was brought through by Jackson, as was King so that places them 2008/09. Frecklington did break through properly under Schofield but was given his first chances under Keith before May 2006. Simple when you break it down, isn't it?

In 2001/02 it was Port Vale knocking us out of the cup again, which stage of the Football League Trophy did they beat us in?

Correct! Wrong!

1993/94 was the only meeting between the two sides in eighteen years. Which competition did we share two draws in?

Correct! Wrong!

It was the League Cup, 2-2 and 0-0 to give us an away goals win. That set up a tasty little tie with Everton.

One for the oldies; which Imp scored both our goals in the Vale Park draw that gave us the away goals win?

Correct! Wrong!

What?? Another question? Damn right. Here's one for the proper oldies (Barwise, Battersby et al). Who bagged himself a final day hat trick in May 1984 to beat Vale 3-2 at Sincil Bank?

Correct! Wrong!

It was the amusingly-named John Thomas. Mark Bright scored for Vale that day, as he had in our earlier FA Cup tie which we won. John Rudge had just taken over as manager and tomorrow he'll be in the dugout too, three decades later.
