The Imps have completed the loan signing of 24 year old midfielder Billy Knott from Gillingham, surprising those who thought a forward was on his way.
As we awaited the news of the new striker, the arrival of a midfielder seemed something of a surprise. However, for the first time since Sean Raggett, the club managed to keep social media at bay!
Knott, who represented England at U16, U17 and U18 level has some real football league pedigree. He played 64 games for Bradford in two seasons, and before that he was at Sunderland. He made one appearance for The Mackems but spent time on loan at Port Vale and Wycombe amongst others.
Knott is a left footed midfelder, and is described as a ‘high intensity’ player which will fit nicely with our current philosophy.
Knott lives in Canvey Island which is close to Danny and Nicky’s home and therefore they’ll know him well. He does seem to be a player a ‘class above’ this division, and one wonders if perhaps he has been brought in on loan with one eye on next season?
