The Imps u21 side have handed an absolute thrashing to Newark at Collingham this evening, and a couple of first team players have handed a selection headache to Danny Cowley.
Amongst the players starting were Callum Howe, and centre forward pairing Jack Muldoon and Adam Marriott. They featured amongst promising Imps youngsters such as Jenk Acar, Archie Moyses and Jack Weatherell.
It took Marriott just five minutes to pick up a Jack Muldoon pass to make it 1-0, and it was Muldoon who netted the second on 13 minutes after good work from James Hugo. Five minutes later Hugo again was the provider, this time it was Marriott netting from close range. 18 minutes gone, 3-0 City and all three going to players with first team ambitions.
On 23 minutes Marriott completed his hat trick, again it was Muldoon providing the bullets. Muldoon’s second on 26 minutes followed Newark’s first goal, but it was 6-1 at half time courtesy of Andy Wright, Adam Marriott with the assist.
I this wasn’t a message to the manager then the 54th minute certainly was. Muldoon completed his hat trick to make it 7-2, with six goals coming from the two fringe first team players. Muldoon got his fourth on 56 minutes, and then Muldoon also claimed a hat trick of assists by teeing up Dec O’Hare. With just under an hour gone Lincoln led 9-2.
Muldoon wasn’t finished with the assists, and he played in Ritchie Burdett for Lincoln’s tenth, and the seventh involving Muldoon. Callum Howe wasn’t to be out done though, and he became the third first team player to score after heading in an Archie Moyses free-kick. 11-2 with twenty minutes still to play.
Those twenty minutes passed without a goal, and it ended 11-2. It will certainly give both Adam Marriott and Jack Muldoon immense confidence and they’ll be knocking on the first team door over the next few matches. With seven goals between them, you wouldn’t bet against at least one making an appearance from the bench on Saturday.
