Joe Ward on the move

Former Imps loan player Joe Ward appears to be on his way out of promoted Brighton and Hove Albion, leaving the way paved for a possible return to Sincil Bank.

Last night he put the following post on Instagram, thanking BHA for his time there and speaking of looking forward to new challenges.

This could be really good news for City, I would imagine that Danny and Nicky are on red alert. Joe had an impressive time on loan here, and just last week I spoke of how I hoped he might one day be back in City colours.

It isn’t a surprise that Brighton have opted to release him. They’re promotion opens up a whole new world of riches and I guess the chances of a young winger like Joe will be limited. He appears to be a philosophical young man, and with his recent record at Lincoln I’d hope he wouldn’t have a problem finding a new club. I hope that club is us.

He scored three goals from just four starts, two against Welling in the FA Trophy and another in the same competition away at Gateshead. He made four further appearances from the bench, including an outing at the Emirates Stadium as we lost to Arsenal. Frustratingly he collected an injury and missed out on the run-in.

Joe Ward was a player I liked immensely, and his lack of league starts surprised me somewhat. He did seem to be exclusively a cup player, although not being cup-tied was an advantage, especially with the likes of Josh Ginnelly unable to play in the FA Cup.

Joe joined Brighton on a development contract in 2015 from Chelmsford City, but four games in their EFL Trophy u23 squad was the only first team football he got, until his Imps spell. He’s still only a young man and I believe he could offer something to us as we stride into League Two.

  1. I’d love to see him here even though we already have several players in his role.

  2. Yes joe would be a likeable addition to the squad let’s hope he is on radar and I feel with the likes of hawkridge and Muldoon possibly not here we won’t have any cover up there
