Former Imps loan player Joe Ward has today signed for Woking of the National League.
It had been thought he might be a target of Danny and Nicky after coming in on loan last season, and he formed a vital part of the Lincoln Lizards team, scoring three times in the FA Trophy.
However, he picked up an injury towards the end of his spell and it ended up being cut short. Upon his return to Brighton he was released.
The player said “Pleased to have signed for Woking, great plans for the club going forward, can’t wait to get started with the new season”.
Ward looked a really good prospect when he appeared for City, although he did seem to feature much more in the cup. I always liked Joe though, I thought he had a good debut in the cup at Gateshead, and every time he featured he seemed skilful and direct. If anything the one thing letting him down was physique, he didn’t have the raw power of Harry Anderson, and perhaps not the aggressive pace of Josh Ginnelly.
Whether Danny felt he wasn’t up to 90 minutes in the league might be up for debate as well. You have to feel that news of his move today suggests we weren’t involved in the chase for him, as I’m sure he wouldn’t have chosen Woking for money, nor for football reasons.
Either way, best of luck to Joe.
