‘Can we cancel a pre-order?’ – reaction to the Imps home kit unveil

The Imps have unveiled the new home shirt for the 2018/19 season and it’s fair to say, reaction hasn’t been entirely positive.

The club statement said; “After receiving fan’s feedback and looking back to some of the classic kits which were worn by many legends at Sincil Bank, it was decided that the design should take a nod towards those kits of yesteryear whilst also noting the comments from supporters about having a retro feel and giving it somewhat of a modern twist.”

Firstly, I’m on the supporters board and I’d like to get on record we were not involved in choosing the kit. I don’t want the blame!

The shirt itself doesn’t look too bad apart from one issue, those chevrons down the side of the stripes. Which legends ever wore a shirt with chevrons? Without them it is a stylish red and white striped shirt with a rather bland looking sponsor’s logo, but with them? It looks like something out of the early 1990’s.

I’ve bought a home shirt every season from 1997 onwards and I have to say that right now, I’m not inclined to purchase this one. Maybe I’ll change my mind but it just doesn’t grab me. I can’t see the retro from the pictures, unless the 1990s is now retro. even if it was, I’m not sure we ever went with chevrons.

The design has been panned on Twitter, with Imps fans complaining about the design in their droves. Could this be the season the away kit outsells the home kit?

  1. Ive been following Lincoln since 1987 and this has to be the worst home kit I’ve seen in 31 years. Be interesting to see how sales go!!

  2. There have been some pretty dire kits over the decades but this one is probably the worst I’ve seen in fifty years. It deserves to have snuk, sorry, sunk, without trace. Perhaps the Stacey West could organise a fan poll on designs over the decades, the good, the bad and the really ugly (snuk) one. I feel for the sponsors. They deserve better

  3. Awful design..hopefully away will be better..alway brought home and away for whole family and least saving money this season on shirts lol..shame fans didn’t get a vote or something afterall it is another record season ticket’s sale

  4. Ok lots of people don’t like it buy WHY???? It ok not liking it but for what reasons? It’s a variation on the traditional red and white stripes but without a collar. I like it but am intrigued as to what in the kit others do dislike so much?
Picture is with models wearing it, will fans dislike as much when Bozzie, Rheady, Greeny and the rest of the team put it on?

    • I think those chevrons have made your eyes go funny, two players modelling, not sure who the other four are !! lol

  5. It’s just horrible (hate the chevrons, hate the no collar). Having not bought a shirt for over 20 years I was inclined to treat myself this year, especially whilst we are riding the crest of a wave. Not now!

Let’s hope they have done a better job with the away kit – or is there another horror story waiting to be unveiled…..?????

  6. The change in design is quite radical… previous design changes have been quite subtle therefore you didnt stand out if you continued to wear a previous seasons shirt… personally I’m more concerned about the performance on the grass not what the players or supporters are wearing.

  7. Chevron are v shaped. Where are these chevrons? I keep hearing about them, but can’t find them anywhere!
