Before anyone has a go about Mansfield Town cast offs, I don’t care. I thought Potter was one of the few who impressed for the Stags in the EFL Trophy game earlier in the season and I was very surprised they released him. I suppose when you’re about to spend £5k a week on Tyler Walker you need to clear as much of the wage bill as you can.
Potter is classed in some quarters as a midfielder, but he can play through the middle and out wide as well. He’s another who is versatile, perhaps not a direct replacement for Ollie but certainly one who would bring options. He wouldn’t break the bank either, Mansfield wouldn’t have been paying his a huge sum.
His record in front of goal isn’t the best, he scored 26 in five seasons for Oxford and just once for the Stags, but he would offer an extra dimension up front. It could be that he is the type of player Danny does not want though, filler for the sake of filling. I believe I saw enough in the EFL Trophy game to think he’s a threat, but at 29 is he past experiment level?
