As always, there’s plenty of reasons to thank tomorrow’s opponents, and plenty of reasons for us to resent them to.
Newport have a long and rich tradition, assuming that the Newport County of today is the same as the one that folded in the late eighties and reformed. Like Stockport County, they followed a similar path to us in dropping out of the league and paid far worse consequences than us in doing so.
They’re an established League Two side now, challenging at the top of the table for a play-off spot, but as recently as 1981 they were UEFA Cup Winners Cup quarter finalists, similar to the modern-day Europa League. There’s is a history packed with highs and lows, much like their relationship with us. Without further ado, here’s some reasons to thank Newport, and some reasons not to.
