Can we expect anything from the Imps in the next seven hours?

It’s transfer deadline day and unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ll be all too aware that there’s possible business abound at Sincil Bank.

There could be as many as three signings today, or there could be as few as none. That’s as much as anyone knows as we enter a final few hours that has perhaps seen the highest level of secrecy from the club since Danny arrived.

Usually something breaks out. Usually, there’s an inkling as to who we might get, or might not get, but right now there’s very little to be gleaned from the usual sources. What we do know is that Danny is after a number nine, but it could be a tall order.

He’s said before he’ll only bring in better than he has now, which limits the number of players we can attract. Tranmere signed Chris Dagnall, Yeovil signed Tristan Abrahams but neither of those players would get in our 16.

It’s going to be a tall order for the club to secure a player capable of challenging John Akinde for a starting place and if they pull it off, it would be remarkable. we’ve suffered in the past on the final day of the window, Ollie Hawkins a prime example, but the club is different now. We have a training ground, we’re top of the league and we’re the most attractive proposition in League Two.

That allows Danny to be picky which I suspect Danny always is. I’d hate to go shopping in Tesco with him, he’d be a nightmare studying the labels, weighing up the pros and cons of the vegetables and sauces. I imagine he’d be carrying around a copy of ‘What Supermarket Produce’ too, just as a back up to his gut feelings. That nature of his has got us a strong squad right now and if we don’t sign anyone, I’ll trust his judgement the deals weren’t right.

What else can we expect? Maybe a keeper, depending on Josh’s injury. Danny won’t want to tie up a wage though and if there’s a keeper incoming I’d expect to hear about it after eight o’clock when whatever other signings he might be making are financially clear.

There’s also talk of a left back with Sam ruled out for the season. Aidy White has been mentioned in some circles, he’s a former Leeds and Barnsley player who is thought to have trained with us. He’d bring experience and cover but as yet, no deal has happened.

Five hours to go. Don’t go anywhere and if you want to keep up with all the League Two movers and shakers, don’t forget our live blog.
