Four out of contract League Two players City could snap up this summer

It’s getting around to the time of year when contracts are up and players are free to move on.

In our league, perhaps more than anywhere, players contracts are left to run down as clubs wait until the last-minute to commit to signings. Budgeting and financial planning take precedent and some smaller clubs know full well they can’t hang on to their top players.

Then there’s ambition, League Two players might want to test themselves in the division above, but if you’re at Bury, MK Dons or Exeter, how do you know for sure which division you’ll be in? We’d be lumped into that if we had many of our key men out of contract, but we don’t.

It all goes to make the summer very interesting and at this moment in time, hundreds of players are approaching the end of their current deal with no guarantee of a future at their current club. Some of those I’ve chosen here will likely stay put, some will move to a bigger club in a higher division, but if we’re able to, we might just be able to bag one for ourselves.

Here are four out of contract players from League Two I’d love to see us bag this summer.

  1. Elliot Embleton, on loan at Grimsby, from Sunderland would be my choice. Out of contract in the summer and I know (family connection who was his youth coach) he is not happy there. Not sure if he is on Dannys radar but Freck could not get near him when they played at SB
